Champagne Vilmart 1er Cru Cuvee Privée, 2011
IN COLLABORATION WITH CHAMPAGNE VILMART & CIE
CHAMPAGNE VILMART & CIE
A family business for five generations, Vilmart is driven by unique intuition, a taste for precision and a certain form of freedom. In 1890, Désiré Vilmart founded the house in the heart of the village of Rilly-la-Montagne, at the foot of the Montagne de Reims. He was succeeded by his son Charles, then his grandson Renan.
During the Second World War, Renan witnessed the destruction of the estate. In 1963, Renan’s son-in-law René Champs took over the reins of the estate. His commitment and perseverance earned him peer recognition, and he was made Chevalier de l’Ordre du Mérite Agricole.
Since 1995, René’s son Laurent Champs has imbued the house with his energy and dedication. He works with precision to reinterpret his wines, with the utmost respect for the work accomplished by the preceding four generations.
THE PHILOSOPHY
Laurent Champs is shaping the future, instilling the house with constantly renewed energy. He shares his independent spirit and pursuit of sound intuition with his team, guiding them in crafting an outstanding champagne.
Attentive to the smallest details, meticulous and sensitive, the cellar master pays particular attention to the emotions procured by the wines he crafts. Over the years, the house has forged a strong and remarkable identity. The quality and subtlety of its wines are now universally recognised.
THE VINTAGE CHAMPAGNES
Coeur de Cuvée are composed of 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir from 50 to 60 year old vines. The wines are matured in 228 liter oak barrels, which allow a complex, intense interaction between the wine and the wood. Vintage champagnes require lengthy ageing to give full expression to the wine’s maturity before it is ready to be enjoyed: eight years for Coeur de Cuvée. They are crafted with the finest juices, excluding the first and last run juices and using only the heart of the cuvée.

1ER CRU – CUVÉE PRIVÉE 2011
THE EXPERIENCE
This cuvée privée Champagne is made from 55 years old vines from Vilmart’s unique terroir. The slow and meticulous development combined with a know–how of five generations make it a particularly precious, well–balanced and exceptional wine.
Blending composed of 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir classified Premier Cru from sixty year old vines in Rilly-la-Montagne. In agreement with the Viticulture Durable (Sustainable Viticulture) and Haute Valeur Environnementale (High Environmental Value) certifications, Vilmart House cultivates its vineyards in the greatest respect of its terroir.
THE WINE
Its straw-yellow colour is accompanied with a fine persistent mousse crowning the disc with a fine and harmonious cord. On the nose, the first aromas of hazelnut and brioche awaken the senses. After a few moments, with much of delicacy, subtle notes of vanilla and dried fruit are married with more subtle lemony flavors. The nose is both elegant and powerful, which indicates a wine of great complexity and a beautiful harmony.
Once in your mouth, aromas of butter, “crème brûlée” and white pepper spices awaken taste buds. It is a gourmand and generous wine with an exceptional freshness. After several minutes of tasting, the complexity and the scarcity of this wine give us an explosion of flavors in the mouth, a real aromatic symphony.
Serving temperature: 8°C to 12°C
THE ART
Piet Mondrian
Broadway Boogie-Woogie – 1942-1943
Oil on Canvas – 127 x 127 cm
Broadway Boogie Woogie is a painting by Piet Mondrian completed in 1943, after he had moved to New York in 1940. When Piet Mondrian arrived in New York he became fond of the neat, rigid architecture. He integrated the mood and tone of jazz into this work. Mondrian called it the “destruction of natural appearance; and construction through continuous opposition of pure means – dynamic rhythm.”
