Grand Vin De Bourgogne

“RÉSERVE SPÉCIALE” – NUITS-SAINT-GEORGES 2011

THE EXPERIENCE

When the most celebrated Burgundian appellations naturally went for the coveted Grand Cru titles, Nuits-Saint-Georges remained resolutely stoic, opting to focus instead on profundity and structure, without which no fine produce from the famed appellation would be worthy of its name. Reminiscent of tempest above the high sea, this monumental composition pays tribute to not only Zao Wou-Ki’s artistic mastery, but also the majestic stature synonymous with the village of Nuits-Saint-Georges.

THE WINE

Robust, full-bodied and yet still elegant and fresh like most wines from Burgundy, this very masculine wine is perfumed with scents of cherry, strawberry and blackcurrant. As it matures, it will develop notes of leather, truffle, fur, game and macerated fruits.

Serving temperature: 15 to 16°C

Decant 2 hours before serving

Drink now to 15 years

THE ART

Collection 2011: 13.03.2003 – 2003
Oil on canvas – 97 x 195 cm – Private collection

Created in 2003, this painting is one of Zao Wou-Ki’s most intense compositions during that period. On centrestage is this saturated, impenetrable mixture of powerful colours, ranging from red, ochre and amber, under which a brooding of deep blue rises to scene. With its apparent might and internal tension, this image opens a window into the inner precinct of the master’s artistic world.
