Champagne Pierre Peters

Réserve Perpétuelle Grand Cru – Blanc de Blancs

THE EXPERIENCE

Prior to his Damascene conversion to Cubism in avant-garde Paris in the eve of WWI, Piet Mondrian used to be a traditionalist painter in the mould of a pious Protestant seeking spiritual purity, producing many representational landscape paintings. No soothsayer with a crystal ball could have predicted that the same person would go on to become a high priest of Abstract Modernism. Given time and patience, this exceptional champagne will gain complexity and reach new heights. Cellaring this gem is akin to charting the artistic evolvement of the artist.

THE WINE

This Réserve Perpétuelle Blancs de Blancs, exclusively composed of the best Grand Cru Chardonnay, has a glistening gold colour with characteristic hints of green and delicate ribbons of fine bubbles. Enriched with more than 20 different vintage years, this Champagne has inherent complexity on the palate. First dominated by equally frank and creamy flavours of soft spices, grapefruit and plum, finishing with lingering notes of sweet spices, pomelo, mirabelle and fresh hazelnut.

Serving temperature: 8°C to 10°C

THE ART

Piet Mondrian, Woods near Oele – 1908
Oil on Canvas – 128 x 158 cm

Born into a strict Protestant family in central Netherlands, Piet Mondrian was introduced to art from an early age thanks to his father, a drawing teacher, and uncle, a student of art. He would subsequently enter the Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam and become a teacher. In his early years, landscape paintings in the Impressionist and Naturalist styles were the mainstay, and he would often depict pastoral motifs such as fields, rivers and windmills, all the while endeavouring to establish a style of his own.
