Grand Vin De Bordeaux

Château La Conseillante Pomerol 2016

THE EXPERIENCE

The name Piet Mondrian is synonymous with Modernist ideals, and the man is convinced that it is possible to attain a more profound knowledge of nature than that provided by empirical means. His artistic evolution is a reductionist process, intimately related to his spiritual and philosophical studies. Hailing from the jewel in the crown on the Right Bank that is Pomerol, Château La Conseillante is the vinous analogy of Piet Mondrian’s outlook. Whilst the painter sublimates nature via succinct forms, the château manifests its terroir eloquently.

THE WINE

The 2016 La Conseillante is one of the undisputed stars of the vintage. Dark, rich and voluptuous, with no hard edges and exceptional balance. Black cherry, plum, chocolate, lavender and spice notes flesh out in the glass, but it is the wine’s textural feel and overall balance that stand out most. The 2016 is deep and textured yet retains the super-classic midweight feel that is such La Conseillante signature.

99 pts James Suckling, 98 pts Robert Parker’s wine Advocate

Serving temperature: 16°C to 17°C

THE ART

Piet Mondrian, Composition II in Red, Blue, and Yellow – 1930
Oil on Canvas – 96.5 x 60.5 cm

Piet Mondrian declared as early as in 1914 that art is higher than reality and has no direct relation to it, and that to approach the spiritual in art, one must to make minimal use of reality, since the two are contradictory to each other. The idealist eventually limited his formal vocabulary to merely three colours and two directions. Evolving from traditionalist Figurativism via non-representational Neoplasticism to Abstract Modernism in the form of geometric elements, Piet Mondrian aims at nothing less than pursuing universal beauty and ecumenical spirituality.
