THE EXPERIENCE
A pioneer of Abstract Modernism and one of the foremost art theorists of the 20th century, Piet Mondrian was once upon a time an ardent follower of the French way of life. Around the same time when Impressionism and Cubism reigned supreme in the artistic realm, the French Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée and Cru systems also became the gold standard in the vinous world. The success of French Pinot Noir may have inspired many a New World aspirant, but a Grand Cru from Côte-de-d’Or crafted by de Montille remains the benchmark.
THE WINE
This special, limited edition Corton Grand Cru Les Maréchaudes was produced in extremely small quantities from one of the most renowned appellations in Burgundy. The clarity of the ruby red colour is the perfect precursor to its aromas of geranium, red cherries and wild strawberries. The perfume is complimented on the palate by a seamless integration of fruit, structure and tannins, which gives a soft and feminine texture and finish. As the wine matures, it will develop savoury notes of leather, game and truffle.

Piet Mondrian declared as early as in 1914 that art is higher than reality and has no direct relation to it, and that to approach the spiritual in art, one must to make minimal use of reality, since the two are contradictory to each other. The idealist eventually limited his formal vocabulary to merely three colours and two directions. Evolving from traditionalist Figurativism via non-representational Neoplasticism to Abstract Modernism in the form of geometric elements, Piet Mondrian aims at nothing less than pursuing universal beauty and ecumenical spirituality.
THE WINE

Raised in a modest family in an artistically nondescript town in central Netherlands, the young Piet Mondrian had relatively little exposure to the latest artistic development in the outside world. France, then the artistic capital of the world, began to capture Piet Mondrian’s imagination. This visually animated painting, partly influenced by Pointillism and Fauvism at the turn of the 20th century, appears nearly utopian yet rooted in nature, as if the artist was yearning to transcend the boundaries of representational art. A seismic shift is on the horizon.
