Chêne Bleu Rosé Vielles Vignes 2017

WHEN TRADITION MEETS ORIGINALITY

CHÊNE BLEU

The Chêne Bleu vineyard is nestled high in the Dentelles de Montmirail in the South of France, in a truly unique ancient site. Sharing the philosophy of Pont des Arts, with a deep respect for tradition, innovation and its wild natural environment, Chêne Bleu produces award-winning, refined and complex wines.

BLUE OAK

Chene Bleu gets its name and emblem from the magnificent, ancient blue oak tree that presides over the estate in the Domaine de la Verriere in France, an estate restored from the isolated medieval priory in Crestet in Provence.

After over a decade of restoration, the idyllic mountain vineyard produces world-class wines of the highest standard and has won no less than 70 national and international awards, from 2006 until now.

I love to encourage promising young people, so at first I sought to help as an occasional ‘adviser’ […] Then when I tasted through the portfolio that they (Arthur de Villepin and Thibault Pontallier) had put together for Pont des Arts, in collaboration with such talented producers, I was struck by its remarkable quality and diversity.

At Chêne Bleu, our low yields and privileged terroir result in small quantities and top quality, so it had never occurred to me to collaborate in this way with anyone; but the opportunity to create something unique, limited-edition and enjoyable was too good to miss. After all, if wine isn’t about enjoyment, sharing and friendship then it has lost some of its primary purposes.

THE EXPERIENCE

Provence is ancient and its charm timeless. Since the dawn of civilisation, early humans have been attracted to Provence by its natural resources and beauty. Without written record, exactly when mankind began to conquer nature in the same way as a matador does bulls is difficult to ascertain, leaving behind myths and legends. Encapsulating the lost childhood-like memory is this outstanding rosé which, along with vin gris, are amongst the oldest styles of wine, as curious and sprightly as infants.

THE WINE

A blend of Grenache and Syrah grown in elevated vineyards at approximately 500m above sea level, soil composition is largely of clayey limestone. Radiating bright salmon pink, the nose offers a mélange of citrus, berries and exotic fruits. Chiselled and multi-layered, the palate delivers yet more toothsome fruits with herbs and floral notes against the backdrop of crispy acidity, leading to a long finish. A biodynamic gem versatile enough to be savoured on its own, or paired with seafood and white meat.

Serving temperature : 12 to 13°C

Drink now to 5 years

THE ART

Miquel Barceló
Sin Titulo, 2011, XI

The experience of traversing the globe from Europe to North America and West Africa has left an indelible mark on Miquel Barceló and his art. True to his contemporary universalist style, he employed a variety of materials in layers to create this composition of texture and substance. In delving deep into the infantile memory of mankind at the dawn of civilization when the surrounding flora anf fauna had yet to be tamed, the image seems to suggest a bullfighting scene, within its primal power shrouded in memory and myth.
