A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE HOUSE OF GODET

BOUND BY HERITAGE

Savoir-faire is often a matter of family and heritage. Is it certainly the case for the Godet and the Pontallier family who have both made wine and spirits production an exquisite artform. Since 1782, the Godet family has been creating exceptional cognacs, while the Pontallier family have been making great wines in Bordeaux for more than 400 years. This unique collaboration comes as celebration of both savoir-faires, culminating in this remarkable spirit.

THE HOUSE OF GODET

Cognac Godet is the project of a long and noble history. Its tradition of excellence and its sense of innovation started with the settlement of Bonaventure Godet in La Rochelle at the end of the 16th century.

FIFTEEN GENERATIONS

Bonaventure was part of a Dutch dynasty of merchants of which he founded a branch in France. Like many of his fellow citizens over the Renaissance period, he happened to be both a natural-born sailor and an accomplished businessman, and was emblematic of the adventurers and global pioneers who began sailing around the world from the harbors of Holland to far as the coasts of America and even the mysterious isle of Java.

The house of GODET has been run by the family for 15 generations. It is a perfect example of a cognac house that deeply believes in the tradition of this spirit and its origins.

Cognac Godet is the story of three brothers and a father perpetuating four centuries of heritage and adventure through sharing their two passions: the sea and Cognac.

Implementing an artistic dimension to our products is the logical progression of our philosophy whilst creating something new with old friends. We are very grateful to Pont des Arts for drawing the interest of the Cognacais to both Art and the Art of Cognac.

THE EXPERIENCE

An exceptional blend of rare eaux-de-vie from the best terroirs of Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne, this nectar offers a complex nose of prune, honey, Russian leather, jasmine and violet. Encompassing bouquet, grace, profundity and silkiness, the indelible taste lingers for up to 15 minutes, turning the taster into the painting (tongue-in-cheek). This magnificent Cognac deserves to be savoured slowly, whereby every sip is a new experience. Time to indulge and be spoiled.

THE SPIRIT

The best known brandy in the world, Cognac has been favoured by the aristocracy since the 16th century. Henry IV, King of France, once complimented the fine vin brule (literally ‘burnt wine’, from Dutch brandwijn). This unique blend of rare eaux-de-vie from Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne – hence Fine Champagne – made by Paul Pontallier and the Godet Family, is an elixir to savour.

THE ART

Snake – 2009

Oil on Canvas – 300 x 220 cm

True to Yue Minjun’s idiosyncratic style of bold humour, the snake as depicted in this hilarious and jocular painting is an allegory of the number 8, the lucky number in Chinese folk tradition, as it bends to chase its own tail, symbolising infinity. This infinity lies not only in auspice, but also pleasure.

THE WINE

A blend of Grenache and Syrah grown in elevated vineyards at approximately 500m above sea level, soil composition is largely of clayey limestone. Radiating bright salmon pink, the nose offers a mélange of citrus, berries and exotic fruits. Chiselled and multi-layered, the palate delivers yet more toothsome fruits with herbs and floral notes against the backdrop of crispy acidity, leading to a long finish. A biodynamic gem versatile enough to be savoured on its own, or paired with seafood and white meat.

Serving temperature : 12 to 13°C
