Grand Vin De Bourgogne
GEVREY – CHAMBERTIN 2013
THE EXPERIENCE
For its Byzantine intricacy, Burgundy is long considered the most complicated wine region to understand, requiring studious efforts and pious concentration. It need not always be, as demonstrated by this outstanding Gevrey Chambertin, the definite king of Côte-de-Nuits. Both in the world of fine art and the realm of fine wine, potency and profundity can respectively be charming and engaging. It is perhaps with a light touch and light heart that an oracle can be best interpreted.
THE WINE
The king of the Côte-de-Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin is famed for its power, depth and length, producing some of the richest and most age worthy red Burgundies in the world. Offering delightful aromas of redcurrants, red fruits, spice and vanilla on the nose, this single-varietal Pinot Noir boasts a sturdy and mineral-like structure, on which flavours ebb and flow with concentration and rhythm.
Serving temperature: 15°C to 16°C
Decant 2 hours before serving
Drink now to 20 years
THE ART
Miquel Barceló, Figes Flor – 2010
Mixed media on canvas – 115 x 146 x 3 cm
Still life has fascinated Miquel Barceló throughout his career, and it is a genre he has repeatedly visited. By the irrepressibly creative artist, this still life is no demure nicety, but a prismatic surface saturated by dense texture, paint and wood pulp, bursting with ingenuity and vitality in centrifugal rhythms. The flora depicted are life in its original, unadorned yet most adorable form, whereas the composition’s earthy and earthly character is a contemporary allegory to nature and morality.
