VOSNE-ROMANÉE ‘‘AUX RÉAS’’ 2012

THE EXPERIENCE

Vosne-Romanée is the Holy Grail of Pinot Noir and, in operatic terms, the countertenor of Côte-de-Nuits. The mythical origin of cave painting is an analogy to the Frankish pedigree of Pinot Noir held in high regard since the Middle Ages, whilst the illusory atmosphere is a metaphor for the ethereal experience of a fine Vosne-Romanée. The journey back to time immemorial in search of humanity and the origin of art begins here.

THE WINE

Vosne-Romanée is the bright gem of the mighty Côte-de-Nuits, whereas Aux Réas is one of its leading lieux-dits, situated in the vicinity of such legendary names as Romanée-Conti and Richebourg. Embodying the quintessence of Pinot Noir, this wine presents endearing notes of red fruits and warm spices on the nose. Given time, intricate aromas of truffle and leather will surely develop. Anchored by a complex structure, this is a harmonious and hedonistic wine combining elegance and power, as well as profundity and subtlety.

Serving temperature: 15°C to 16°C

Decant 2 hours before serving

Drink now to 20 years

THE ART

Miquel Barceló, Quatre Coins Jaunes – 2013
Mixed media on canvas – 200 x 300 x 4 cm – © Agustí Torres – 2013

Ever the inquisitor, Miquel Barceló has in recent years focused on answering the fundamental questions concerning art and life. He does so by delving deep into the ancient and distant past where written record had yet to replace memory and myth. Reminiscent of the prehistoric cave painting, one of the earliest art forms by mankind, the image is anintense yet transparent narrative of legend, metamorphosis and time, transporting the viewer back to the cradle of civilisation.
