Grand Vin De Bordeaux

“RIVE GAUCHE” 2010

THE EXPERIENCE

Reaching the height of such classic vintages as 1982, 1990, 2000, 2005 and 2009, the superlative vintage of 2010 is one that pushes boundaries and smashes pre-existing conceptions. Bound by both Chinese and French artistic traditions in his artistic life, Zao Wou-Ki appeared to be unfettered by conventional strictures at the age of 85, when this composition was finished. As brilliant, tense and vibrant as the aptly titled Terre Rouge is the abundant and elegant bouquet of red fruits in this classic Left Bank blend, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon.

THE WINE

This exceptionally elegant wine is the result of a careful selection of the best parcels from the Haut-Médoc area in Bordeaux. This wine consists of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot and 12% Petit Verdot. It is a very generous and elegant wine, with a beautiful bouquet of dried cherries, wild berries and vanilla aromas.

THE ART

Collection 2010: Red Earth (Terre Rouge) – 16.01.2005
Oil on canvas – 130 x 195 cm – Private collection

This Red Earth, dated 2005, is streaked with a powerful nervous oblique, a visual thunder saturated with bright blues. The composition and the selection of colours evidence the freedom of Zao Wou-Ki. He is eighty-five years old at that time and seems liberated from the weight of tradition, always looking for new territories to conquer.
