Grand Vin De Bordeaux

“Cuvée Spéciale” Pomerol 2015

THE EXPERIENCE

Diplomat, politician and poet, Dominique de Villepin is revered for representing France across the globe. The difficulty, or futility, in labelling this giant of French politics is not unlike Pomerol, a heavyweight on the Right Bank which does not follow any Grands Crus Classés system, but stays true to itself by way of character and quality. This wine is a tribute to and an oenological doppelgänger of this statesman.

THE WINE

Admired around the world, Pomerol is the bijou of the Right Bank. This Cuvée spéciale, from the outstanding 2015 vintage, is the result of a careful selection of some of the best parcels from Pomerol. Seamlessly combining power, balance and elegance, the 2015 vintage is one that delights Bordeaux purists. Donning an impenetrable purple robe, this gem oozes a smorgasbord of cassis, black cherry and raspberry, complemented by such scented spices as vanilla, cinnamon and clove. Dense yet refreshing in texture, the potent palate rests on perfectly ripe tannins, leading to an elongated finish.

Serving temperature: 16°C to 17°C

Decant 2 hours before serving

THE ART

Yan Pei-Ming, Untitled, Dominique de Villepin – 2006
Oil on Canvas – 300 x 300 cm

Renowned for his signature “epic-sized” portraits, Yan Pei Ming has created a series of imposing, larger-than-life portraits of world leaders past and present, such as Mao Zedong and Barack Obama. A member of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, he created this intensely reflective portrait of the former French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin. The subject-matter of the portrait appears engrossed in observation of the material world, from the standpoint of a statesman and poet.
