Grand Vin De Bordeaux

Lalande-de-Pomerol 2014

THE EXPERIENCE

Bordeaux may not be the most approachable wine region, but it is revered around the world for good reasons, one of which is its balance amidst profundity. Sitting on the knife’s edge where white grape varieties just about feel comfortable and red grape varieties only just achieve optimum maturity, Bordeaux in all its colours demands patience and a comprehensive understanding of climatic reality, at times as convoluted and fateful as human and social conditions.

THE WINE

This pulsating Right Bank is sourced from the best parcels from Lalande-de-Pomerol, a geographically small yet internationally renowned appellation just a stone’s throw away from mighty Pomerol. Comprising 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, this beauty of a claret is richness and complexity in a bottle. With a dark garnet robe, it unhurriedly reveals enthralling aromas of red fruits and black fruits, supported by a firm structure of minerality. Typical of the 2014 vintage, this wine is exceptionally elegant, fresh and well balanced, ending with a lingering and refined aftertaste.

Serving temperature: 16°C to 17°C

Decant 2 hours before serving

Drink now to 20 years

THE ART

Yan Pei-Ming, Blue portrait of the artist – 2016
Oil on Canvas – 50 x 50 cm

In dark, introspective and almost sombre blue, this small format self-portrait is laden with melancholy, helplessness and apathy of a witness all too aware of the social conditions around him, and yet powerless to exert influence on the status quo. Whether this was the reason behind Yan Pei Ming’s departure from China and settlement in France, one could only second-guess, but the intricate and bittersweet emotions of the contemporary artist is no doubt infectiously detailed and profound.
